1400? -- From the "memory" of Angelo Sinisio, a Benedictine monk who began the reconsruction of the monastery of Saint Martin of the Steps near Palermo in 1347. The monastery had been fired and destroyed by the Saracens.


Questo monasteiro di S. Martino è anco di quelli che fabbricau S. Gregorio in Sicilia e dotato dello sò patrimonio, dello quali fa espressa mentioni nellu registru di li pistuli, lu quali per li Agareni, seu Saraceni fu distruttu e brusciatu, quandu fu pigghiatu e sacchiatu Palermu, chi vinniru in cupiusu numeru, comu si cridi prubabili e lu fabbricau a chistu locu per essiri sò tirrenu comu havemu avutu relationi di li vecchi practici di stu locu, zoè misseri Giaimu di Cuté, e misseri Rigaulu di Valinzola, e Precti Girolamu Vigneri e Lemmu lu Beddu, chi dicinu havirilu intisu di li soi antipassati.
